Christopher Newport University

Is there any correlation between the school's namesake and its overall reputation?
Yeah.  Christopher Newport, the person, was an English mariner who captained the Susan Constant.  Not many people know that.

Christopher Newport, the university, is a small public school in Newport News.  Not a whole lot of people know that either.  CNU is a school that tends to be overshadowed by its neighbors.  These rivals lord over Christopher Newport in size (ODU), augustness (W&M), and presence of Pat Robertson (Regent).

Like its namesake, CNU is a footnote, a fun fact.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Should my child go to this school?  For some students, this is a great fit.  Some people don't want to date the most popular, the smartest, or Pat Robertson.  Some see comfort, even sexiness, in anonymity, self-effacement, etc.

For these people, there's CNU, strutting that sexy animosity since 1960.

Braggable or shameful?   If you didn't go to college, this one is braggable.  Get a decal for the car.  Get one for Grandma.  Be proud of your little Captain.  Don't be disturbed when he's been gone for half a semester and entire days go by where you forget he even exists.

Will I make friends?
You will be amazed the amount of friends you make over the six years it takes you to obtain a BA.

Will these friends last a lifetime?  They will last more than a lifetime.  These friends will follow you into your next life.  They will always be with you, following you, these phantoms, lifetime after lifetime.

Will I have fun at this school?  Don't know why else it would take you six years.

Will I meet the love of my life at this school?  You will meet the person you marry at this school.  Unfortunately, the love of your life did better than you on the SATs, wrote a quirky, sobering personal essay, and got into UVa.  You should try harder in your next life.
